We recently had an opportunity to chat with Sarah Zidek, Co-owner of Hooked & Tagged, along with her husband, Tom, to learn about the inspiration to start Hooked & Tagged and the growth of their business to open a second location!
How was Hooked & Tagged founded?
Tom founded the company his sophomore year of college. He wanted to start a company revolving around the outdoor community and came up with Hooked & Tagged. It was an online only store at first.
Tom's parents have had a vacation home in Eagle River for ten years and his mother was walking through town one day and saw the store for sale. At first, we didn’t plan to have a storefront but the price was right and it just made sense for us to move forward. Plus, we absolutely love the area and the outdoor community is amazing here so it was a no brainer.
In 2021 we needed some extra space for Hooked & Tagged and saw the vacant building across the street so we decided to utilize the back for our distribution center while opening Northern Joy, a home goods store in the front to provide further value to the community.
What products do you offer?
At Hooked & Tagged, we offer a variety of products but we are known for our headwear and hoodies. We also offer shirts, performance gear, pet items, coffee, and outdoor décor, accessories and more. At Northern Joy, it is solely a home goods/gift shop.
Tell us about your decision to open a second Hooked & Tagged shop in Minocqua, and why you feel you've been so successful.
We had the opportunity to expand to a new area because of the strong support we received in Eagle River. We are very humbled by the amount of business we have accomplished thus far. We believe that a huge impact of our success belongs to the outstanding customer service we provide to our patrons. Also, our adaptability to business trends and utilizing social media platforms has been a huge factor in our business.
How many staff do you have now?
We currently have seven people on staff which will increase during the summer time.
Why do you feel it's important to give back to the community?
We feel giving back to our community is so important because they support us as a small local business. Also, being a faith-based organization and giving back to our community especially organizations that are aligned with the same beliefs/morals is very important to us.
Is there anything else that you would like to add?
If you haven't checked out our stores please visit in Eagle River or Minocqua or online. Thank you for supporting small business!
Congratulations to Tom & Sarah Zidek and Hooked & Tagged!
