We were delighted recently to have the opportunity to interview Taylor Pitlik of Pitlik & Wick, Inc. to learn more about their company. Congratulations on all of your success and commitment to Vilas County!
Please share the history of Pitlik & Wick, and why it’s important for you to have your business in Vilas County.
We are celebrating our 70th year as a company. Pitlik & Wick, Inc. was founded in 1952 by two brother-in-laws, Clarence Pitlik and Ed Wick. Their vision was to work in construction to provide for their families. We currently have 2nd, 3rd, & 4th generation family members working at Pitlik & Wick, Inc.
Quality has always been at the core of Pitlik & Wick. From Driveways to Highways, we focus on providing high quality services and products to our customers. We take tremendous pride in the numerous Wisconsin DOT awards we have received for quality. Being a local, family run company we value that we work in the same communities we live in – like Vilas County.
How many employees do you have?
We are proud to employ 150 people.
Tell us how your business model is different, using recycled materials.
One thing many people do not know is that all of Pitlik & Wick, Inc.’s manufactured products are 100% recyclable. We can recycle asphalt to be used in new asphalt pavement and concrete can be crushed and used as a substitute for materials such as road gravel. In 1998, Pitlik & Wick, Inc. was the first company in the state of Wisconsin to successfully pave a Wisconsin Superpave Project with 20% Recycled Asphalt Product (RAP) in the Mix. We also help the community recycle asphalt shingles. We are able to use asphalt shingles when making new asphalt mix. This keeps the asphalt shingles out of the landfill and reused again in our roads.
How has your business grown over the years? Over the years, Pitlik & Wick has expanded its services. We established Northern Lakes Concrete back in 1998 and also King Quarry in 2005. We have grown in overall size to 150 employees.
Tell us how you give back to the community, and why it’s important for Pitlik & Wick.
We support many different events and organizations throughout the area. Living in the area ourselves, we want to see the Northwoods continue to thrive and be a great place to live. Many of our employees volunteer in different organizations and we continue to support the efforts of those sharing our values.
