VCEDC Hosts Virtual Event "Re-Writing the Rural Narrative"
Monday , Sep 21, 2020
The Lakeland Times, Sept 22, 2020
At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, the Vilas County Economic Development Corporation is hosting presenter Ben Winchester for the virtual event, “Re-Writing the Rural Narrative: The ‘Brain-Gain’ of Rural America.”
Winchester is a senior research fellow at the University of Minnesota Extension, Center of Community Vitality and a nationally recognized rural sociologist featured on PBS and New York Times. Winchester will discuss what is happening to rural America, and the trend of 30-49 year olds moving to rural areas. He will explore how the population shift is supported by increasing broadband access, the benefits of working remotely, changing work practices, slower place of life, safety and security, and lower costs of living and housing — thus the “Brain Gain” of 30 to 49-year-olds moving to rural America.
